It was rumoured as a possibility, but Netflix have confirmed that The Punisher will be getting his own series! The character’s arrival on Daredevil isn’t the first time Punisher has been put on-screen, however, it wasn’t until the pitch-perfect casting and performance of Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle that it’s really been successful.
This incarnation of The Punisher, which first appeared in Season 2 of Daredevil on Netflix, will join the already hugely popular Netflix/Marvel tv show line up. Marvel are currently preparing Luke Cage for release on the 20th September 2016, with Iron Fist currently shooting and due to air next year, followed by The Defenders, which will include all 4 of the heroes. It’s not entirely clear where The Punisher will slot into that line up, which also has to include a 2nd season of Jessica Jones, and (presumably) a 3rd Daredevil run, although that has yet to be confirmed.
The Punisher, who first appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man #129, has previously had a number of film outings starring Dolph Lundgren, Thomas Jane and Ray Stevenson, but none quite hit the mark until Bernthal took over the role for this iteration.
