‘Frasier’: Paramount+ Revival Series Gets October Premiere, Updated Theme Tune & First-Look Photos!

Now with added Nicholas Lyndhurst!

by Dave Elliott

Paramount+ today revealed some first-look photos, and released the updated theme tune, AND announced an October premiere date for the upcoming Paramount+ revival series of Frasier, which sees Kelsey Grammer reprising his titular role (alongside some British sitcom royalty.)

Filmed in front of a live studio audience at Paramount Studios in Los Angeles, the new series follows Frasier Crane (Grammer) in the next chapter of his life as he returns to Boston with new challenges to face, new relationships to forge and an old dream or two to finally fulfil. Frasier has re-entered the building!

In addition to Grammer, the new series stars:

Jack Cutmore-Scott (‘Deception’, ‘Tenet’) as Freddy Crane, Frasier’s son, a nuanced combination of his father and grandfather. Years ago, Freddy rejected following in his father’s footsteps – dropping out of college to become a fireman – and he’s never looked back until now, when recent troubles have left him with no one to turn to in his life. If they can overcome past differences, Freddy and Frasier might finally have a chance to repair old wounds.

Nicholas Lyndhurst (‘Only Fools & Horses’, ‘Goodnight Sweetheart’) as Alan Cornwall, Frasier’s old college buddy turned university professor. British, boozy and larger than life, Alan has an intellect on par with Frasier’s – if only he ever felt like using it. Alan’s mischievous streak might be just what Frasier could use to shake up his routine, while Frasier’s thoughtful guidance might help Alan find some of the direction he’s been missing in his own life.

Toks Olagundoye (‘The Neighbors’, ‘Castle’) as Alan’s colleague and head of the university psychology department, Olivia. She projects confidence, warmth, and professionalism – in other words, the opposite of how completely unglued she feels on the inside. Olivia must contend daily with her colleague Alan who resents Olivia’s seniority over him. The two of them disagree on just about everything, but they both admire Frasier – and each hopes to use him to further their own aims.

Jess Salguerio (‘Y: The Last Man’) portrays Eve. Spontaneous, outgoing and bursting with creative energy whether it was asked for or not, Freddy’s roommate is a breath of fresh air. With an innate ability to connect with both Frasier and Freddy, Eve is a critical bridge between father and son as they attempt to reconcile.

Lastly, newcomer Anders Keith plays Frasier’s nephew, David. An awkward college freshman with a penchant for off-kilter observations, David has Niles’ intelligence, Daphne’s smile, and neither of their polish. David’s unearned confidence may confuse some, but Frasier has a fondness for his nephew’s earnest enthusiasm.

‘Frasier’ comes from writers Chris Harris (How I Met Your Mother) and Joe Cristalli (Life in Pieces), who executive produce with Kelsey Grammer, Tom Russo and Jordan McMahon. The series is produced by CBS Studios, in association with Grammer’s Grammnet NH Productions. The first two episodes of the new series are directed by legendary director and television creator James Burrows, who is best known for his work as co-creator, executive producer and director of the critically acclaimed series Cheers, as well as the original series Frasier, Will & Grace and Dear John.

This Autumn marks 30 years since the original show first premiered on television, which still holds the record for most Emmy wins for a comedy series with 37 wins and 107 nominations. The original series is available to stream on Paramount+ and Pluto TV.

Frasier‘ Season 13 premieres Friday, 13th October 2023 with two episodes on Paramount+ UK, and all other international markets with Paramount+.

The series debuts Thursday, October 12 with two episodes on Paramount+ in the U.S. and Canada. It will also have a special airing of the first two episodes back to back on Tuesday, October 17, beginning at 9:15 PM ET/PT on CBS in the USA.

And this series will be repeated on the UK’s Channel Four every morning for the next 25 years as Channel 4 had done with all the other Frasier episodes along with Everyone Loves Raymond.
I used to love these two shows but after 25 years, and knowing every episode, every gag, every punch line, I’d sooner watch the BBC news, depressing as it is!
At least it’s something I haven’t seen it before!

If he isn’t married to Charlotte and living happily ever after, then that spoils the end of the original. So I don’t think I want to watch it.
