CBS Orders ‘Fire Country’ Spin-Off ‘Sheriff Country’ Starring Morena Baccarin

Another expanding procedural universe for CBS

CBS is expanding ‘Fire Country’ as it hands a series order to Sheriff Country, a crime spin-off starring Morena Baccarin.

‘Sheriff Country’ sees Baccarin as straight-shooting sheriff Mickey Fox, the stepsister of Cal Fire’s division chief Sharon Leone (Diane Farr), who investigates criminal activity as she patrols the streets of small-town Edgewater while contending with her ex-con father and a mysterious incident involving her wayward daughter.

Morena Baccarin is probably best known for her roles as Inara in ‘Firefly’, ‘Deadpool’s girlfriend Vanessa in the Ryan Reynolds film franchise, Jessica Brody in ‘Homeland’, and Dr. Leslie “Lee” Thompkins in the series DC Comics series ‘Gotham’ (where – sidenote – she met her husband, Ben McKenzie, who played Jim Gordon.)

Sheriff Mickey Fox first shows up in Season 2, Episode 6, of ‘Fire Country’, titled “Alert the Sheriff”, which aired in April on CBS, and acted as a “backdoor pilot” for the spin-off. A fire camp inmate escapes from Three Rock, leading to them calling in the sheriff for help.

The initial episode of the new drama is being written by Tony Phelan and Joan Rater, who co-created ‘Fire Country’ alongside star Max Thieriot (SEAL Team), whose real-life experiences inspired the drama, with story by Phelan, Rater and Thieriot. Executive producers are Thieriot, Phelan, Rater, and Jerry Bruckheimer and KristieAnne Reed for JBTV. The series is produced by CBS Studios.

Fire Country‘ Season 1 is currently airing on Sky Witness and streaming service NOW in the UK. Season 2 is expected to follow, and the drama has also been renewed for Season 3.

Sheriff Country‘ will premiere in the 2025/26 broadcast season on CBS in the USA. It obviously doesn’t have a UK premiere date or broadcaster yet (although I would be shocked if Sky doesn’t pick it up to run alongside the main series.) If you want to keep track of this or any other show, you can add them via our Never Miss system, and you’ll be notified when it gets a UK premiere date.
