If your a regular viewer of BBC Three, you’re probably aware of Nick Helm’s work already, having been a regular on the channel’s Live at the Electric, and his appearance on the excellent Good News. This however, is his first foray into sitcom, and sees Nick playing Andy, a dissolute out-of work musician who forges an unlikely alliance with his 12-year-old nephew Errol after being morally blackmailed into looking after him by his chaotic sister Sam – all on the day Andy was planning to kill himself…
The show is produced by Steve Coogan’s company Baby Cow, who also made The Mighty Boosh, Gavin and Stacey, Hunderby, and of course, Alan Partridge. It’s a dark buddy comedy with some family drama elements and has a musical/music video component every episode. Think, Flight of the Conchords meets Louie.
Uncle airs on the 13th January 2014 at 10pm.
