With production underway on the Doctor Who Christmas Special, the BBC have started to announce the guest stars for the episode. The most well known name on the list is undoubtably Nick Frost (Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, the one that’s not Simon Pegg, etc…). Comedy partner Pegg of course guest starred in the Chris Eccleston episode ‘The Long Game’ back in the 1st season of rebooted Who.
Nick commented “I’m so thrilled to have been asked to guest in the Doctor Who Christmas Special, I’m such a fan of the show. The read-through was very difficult for me; I wanted to keep stuffing my fingers into my ears and scream ‘No spoilers!’ Every day on set I’ve had to silence my internal fan-boy squeals!”
The 2nd name on the list that popped out for me though was Michael Troughton, who’s a terrific actor most recently seen in Breathless & Jonathan Creek, but, to people who remember the 80’s, probably best know as Alan B’stard’s snivelling sidekick Piers Fletcher-Dervish in The New Statesman. Of course he’s also no stranger to Doctor Who, as his father Patrick played Doctor No 2.
Other guest stars include Natalie Gumede (Coronation Street, Ideal, Strictly Come Dancing), Faye Marsay (Pride, The White Queen, Fresh Meat) and Nathan McMullen (Misfits, Casualty).
Steven Moffat, lead writer and executive producer, says: “Frost at Christmas – it just makes sense! I worked with Nick on the Tintin movie many years ago and it’s a real pleasure to lure him back to television for a ride on the TARDIS.”
