The Big Bang Theory S801 Review (SPOILERS)
The Big Bang Theory Season 8 kicked off last night in good fashion. After last season’s mediocrity of episodes and it being quite frankly repetitive, this new season seems refreshingly better. Every character last night had at least a few lines which caused some great laughs, being the Big Bang at its best! In true Sheldon style he had managed to have all his possession’s stolen which was utterly brilliant to see and witnessing him in his underpants in the Police Station was hilarious!
The 2 stand out character’s last night were Sheldon and Stuart. Sheldon as always, had his sarcastic and condescending killer lines and Stuart was brilliant in his new “rivalry” with Howard which brings us another great story-line for the season. A great start to a hopefully fresh new season!
7/10 – Smart, Charming but lacking the huge laughs

Owen is an 18 year old student from Chesterfield. When not studying or working, he’s usually sat on the sofa binge-watching hours of TV and is a little too obsessed with supporting his football team, Derby County.
I am a fan of The Big Bang Theory and self confessed science and sci fi geek, but i have to disagree with your review of S8E1, i thought it was very thin on laughs, only Penny’s job interview scene where they discussed Bernadette being scarey was funny. In the last few series Sheldon has become more and more mean, espiecially to Amy, crossing over from being hilariously socially clueless to simply mean. Apart from Sheldon’s fascination with trains the episode was entirely free of anything geek like, could have easily been an episode of friends. I am not surprised by the falling quality of the show, it was the outstanding scripts of the first 5 series that had me rolling on the floor in laughter that are difficult to maintain over time, as the script writers are clearly running out of fresh ideas in connection with all things geek related. Stuarts relationship with Howards mother is more weird than funny. To finish, Kaley’s new haircut does not suit her, please grow it back asap! A disappointing 4/10.
I have to agree with you Jonathan that the scripts had become lazy in the last few years, I think they could do with some new writers to give the current ones a break. I guess with the show becoming more popular there’s kind of a demand for the character’s to evolve so they had to bring in more relationship themes to the show which can go certain ways such as yourself disliking it. I personally think Sheldon is much nicer than he was when it started, just look at how close he is with Penny, plus I don’t think he intentionally goes out to be mean most of the time.
Thanks for the comment!
hi Owen, good point about Penny and Sheldon, they do have a special understanding and frequently exchange verbal barbs which are often very funny. I think the main problem i have is how Sheldon is with Amy in particular, if Penny got treated that badly then she would have punched him, wheras Amy often just gets hurt by Sheldons insensitivity. Amy does occasionally get her own back, by clever manipulation or telling him to go away, but she doesnt cope with Sheldons character flaws as well as Penny or Leonerd. In the early series, Sheldon is arrogant, selfish, annoying, neurotic, obsessive, awkward, stubborn, literal, demanding, pedantic and completely fails to understand other peoples feelings, but i dont think hes mean, even unintentionally. I believe the viewing figures for series 8 are, if anything, going up, so they have absolutely no reason to change what they are doing now, which is probably due to it being more soapy and less geeky but still involving a group of lovable characters.
