by Dave Elliott

Someone at Paramount+’s new six-part crime thriller Curfew (working title) seems to be a massive ‘Eastenders’ fan, as it’s announced Lucy Benjamin, Larry Lamb, Bobby Brazier & Anita Dobson will join the previously announced cast.

An adaptation of Jayne Cowie’s novel After Dark, in a society governed by ‘The Women’s Safety Act’ where men are tracked by ankle tag and confined to their homes by a strict curfew from 7pm every night, a woman’s body is discovered brutally murdered in Curfew hours. Veteran Police officer Pamela Green believes a man must be responsible, however, in a world where men are bound by the curfew system, if Pamela proves a man committed this murder she could bring The Women’s Safety Act crashing down – but powerful forces are determined to make the curfew a success and will do whatever it takes to silence Pamela in her relentless pursuit of the truth.

Leading the series are Sarah Parish (Stay Close) is Pamela, our lead investigator, whilst Mitchell Robertson (Mayflies) is rookie cop Eddie, who is shadowing Pamela during the investigation. Mandip Gill (Doctor Who) joins the cast as Sarah, an employee at the local tagging centre at the heart of Pamela and Eddie’s investigation. Alexandra Burke (Sister Act) joins the cast as Helen, a well-intentioned local school teacher and advocator for the curfew.

They are now joined by Lucy Benjamin (‘Eastenders’, ‘Detectorists’) as DCI Sue Ferguson who is overseeing Pamela’s investigation; Larry Lamb (‘Eastenders’, ‘Gavin and Stacey’) as Rhys Holden, whose family arrives in the UK from America and has to learn to adjust to life under the restrictive curfew system; Bobby Brazier (‘EastEnders’) as James, a vocal schoolboy advocating for the abolishment of the curfew; And ‘Eastenders’ legend (and new mystery ‘Doctor Who’ star) Anita Dobson plays Janet, who runs a ‘motherhouse’, a refuge-style home for women that don’t want to cohabit with men.

Also joining the ensemble cast for ‘Curfew’ (w/t) is Tommy McDonnell (Alice & Jack), Adam Korson (This Is Us), Amy Louise Pemberton (DC’s Legends of Tomorrow), Imogen Sandhu (Casualty), James Craven (Coronation Street), Selorm Adonu (Man to Man) and newcomer Raphael D’Alterio.

Joasia Goldyn (Britannia) is Director on the series, whilst Lydia Yeoman (The Haze) is lead writer. Joining Yeoman in the writing team is Jess Green (EastEnders), who will write episode three and Sumerah Srivastav (Manifest) will write episode five. Allan Niblo, Jane Moore and Nathalie Peter-Contesse are Executive Producers on the series for Vertigo Films, and John Adams (Damaged) joins the team as Producer. ‘Curfew’ (w/t) was commissioned by Sebastian Cardwell, Deputy Chief Content Officer, UK, Paramount+.
