Indian Summers Not Returning

Today Channel 4 announced that Indian Summers would not be returning for a third season. It seems that the drama about the British Raj, who’s first series was a smash hit for Channel 4, has not been renewed due to season two’s rather lacklustre ratings.

The show, which was made by New Pictures for Channel 4, struggled to keep the audience it found the first time around, and with various other dramas vying for the network’s finite budget, it was unfortunately the show that end up being dropped.

Channel 4 is certainly not short of quality drama at the moment. Humans & No Offence are getting second seasons. New series National Treasure starring Robbie Coltrane/Julie Walters, and written by BAFTA-winning writer Jack Thorne is due soon, and a new comedy-drama Loaded from Fresh Meat/Misfits writer Jon Brown is also on the cards. It’s just unfortunate for fans of Indian Summers that they won’t see their show return.

A spokesperson for Channel 4 say “We’re incredibly proud of Indian Summers and have loved having it in the schedule. But with a number of new drama launches already confirmed for 2017 we have decided not to commission a third series.”
