The Amazon Prime line up just keeps getting better and better. Not only can you watch Outlander, Lucifer, Preacher, and all their original content such as the brilliant The Man In The High Castle, but now they’ve added Steven Soderbergh’s The Girlfriend Experience to their imports.
Amazon and US network Starz today announced a multi-territory content licensing agreement for the hit limited series from executive producer Steven Soderbergh through Starz Digital, the global digital and on-demand licensing arm of Starz. The 13 episodes of the critically-acclaimed show premiere exclusively on Amazon Prime Video in the UK, Germany and Austria today, and in Japan later this year.
“With a captivating story, combined with an mesmerising performance by Riley Keough and executive produced by Steven Soderbergh, The Girlfriend Experience provides a dramatic and emotional look into this provocative world,”says Brad Beale, Vice President of Worldwide Television Acquisition for Amazon. “We are excited to bring this extraordinary series exclusively to Prime members in the UK, Germany, Austria, and Japan.”
The Girlfriend Experience is executive produced by Steven Soderbergh, Philip Fleishman, Lodge Kerrigan, Amy Seimetz, Gary Marcus and Jeff Cuban and stars Riley Keough (Mad Max: Fury Road, Magic Mike). The series follows Christine Reade, a second year student at Chicago-Burnham Law School and a new intern at a prestigious law firm. Working hard to establish herself at the firm, her focus quickly shifts when a classmate introduces her to the world of transactional relationships. Known as GFEs, they are women who provide The Girlfriend Experience – emotional and sexual relationships at a very high price. Juggling two very different lives, Christine quickly finds herself drawn into the GFE world, attracted to the rush of control and intimacy. The Girlfriend Experience was created by Lodge Kerrigan and Amy Seitmetz and also stars Paul Sparks (Boardwalk Empire), Mary Lynn Rajskub (Brooklyn Nine-Nine) and Kate Lyn Sheil.
