Spike has picked up new comic book, western-fantasy, drama Wynonna Earp Geektown has learnt.
The story follows Wynonna (Melanie Scrofano – Damien, The Listener), the great-granddaughter of Legendary Old West lawman Wyatt Earp, as she drags herself back to her hometown of ‘Purgatory’, only to find the place overrun with ghosts of the criminals her great-granddaddy dispatched in his day.
Wynonna alone has what it takes to send these shadowy beings packing, but she still has to learn how to shoot straight. Luckily, the unflappable Agent Dolls (Shamier Anderson – Defiance) has been assigned to the ill-fated town, but will he warm to its wisecracking protector?
Other core cast includes Tim Rozon (Being Human US, Lost Girl) as con artist Doc Holliday and Dominique Provost-Chalkley (Avengers: Age of Ultron) as Wynonna’s sister Waverly Earp.
“Wynonna Earp is a unique contemporary western that will bring high octane, full-throttle, supernatural action…” commented Chris Regina, Senior VP of Programming at Syfy, who commissioned the show in the US. “It is wildly imaginative and we are excited to work with Seven24 Films, IDW Entertainment and Emily on this truly original concept that will showcase fun, stylized visuals and pure escapism.”
The show is based on the original comic book series by Beau Smith, from Image Comics & IDW Publishing. Lost Girl & Killjoys producer Emily Andras developed the series for television, and it’s produced by SEVEN24 Films & IDW Entertainment.
Wynonna Earp will air on Spike in the UK – Friday 29th July 2016 at 9pm
