Oh god… make it stop…
I tend to think that meetings at NBC go something like this…
Sam: “Bob, what’s the most horrible idea you can come up with for a tv show?”
Bob: “I don’t know Sam. Are we talking, like, Hitler offensive? Or just a horrible idea?”
Sam: “I think just horrible. We don’t want the FCC on our as… erm… ‘posteriors’… *whispers* they have ears EVERYWHERE…”
Bob: “So horrible, not offensive… Humm… King Arthur and Camelot as a police procedural?”
Sam: “Too late, Fox are already doing that.”
Bob: “A sit-com with Hitler?”
Sam: “NO Hitler! Plus the UK already did that.”
Bob: “Got it! A sexy contemporary take on Oliver Twist, as a female led crime procedural!”
Sam: “And that’s why we pay you the big bucks Bob! Get Joel Silver on the phone!”
And here we are… NBC have commissioned a ‘a sexy contemporary take’ on the Oliver Twist story, starring a twenty-something woman, who teams up with a group of outcasts to catch wealthy criminals… It’s called Twist, and Joel Silver is producing with and Lionsgate studios. At the moment it’s only got a script commitment from NBC, and lets hope it goes no further.
Dickens is spinning so much in his grave right now, you could use him to bore a hole to the centre of the Earth…
Oh, and I wasn’t joking about Fox and the King Arthur/police procedural. That is also a thing. Arthur is a graffiti artist named Art, with a best friend called Lance, and Guinevere is now Gwen, an idealistic cop, and Art’s ex-girlfriend…
Really US networks? Is this what we have come to?…
