Magic Drama ‘Deception’ From Blindspot Producers Get’s Pilot Order (l to r – Gero, Berlanti, Kwong)
Greg Berlanti is a busy busy man this year! He has got the whole DC/Arrowverse to organise, plus Riverdale his new show based on Archie comics for CW, a Black Lightning pilot for Fox, a heist drama pilot called Criminal for ABC, and Blindspot, on which he’s a producer, returning! Now you can add a pilot for ABC called Deception, a new ‘magic’ based drama, to that list.
Deception see’s Berlanti re-teaming with Blindspot creator Martin Gero and consultant David Kwong, for a show about a magician who uses his skills to help the FBI. When a superstar magician’s career is ruined by scandal, he has only one place to turn to practice his art of deception, illusion and influence – the FBI. He’ll become the world’s first consulting illusionist, helping the government solve crimes that defy explanation, and trap criminals and spies by using deception.
The pilot is being written by Chuck co-creator and current Legends of Tomorrow co-showrunner Chris Fedak. Berlanti and Sarah Schechter of Berlanti Productions will exec-produce. Magician David Kwong, who worked on Blindspot as puzzle creator, and Now You See Me as magic consultant will serve as co-producer.
This is only a pilot production commitment right now, but we’ll let you know if it develops into something more.
