Toby Stephens Is Lost In Space For Netflix
Black Sails actor Toby Stephens is trading his pirate ship for a spaceship, as he land the role of family patriarch in Netflix’s upcoming Lost In Space reboot!
Stephens, who played Captain Flint in Black Sails and the dastardly Gustav Graves in Die Another Day, will be playing astrophysicist John Robinson in Netflix’s reboot of the classic 60’s series. The original show saw the Robinson family sent on a 5 and half year mission to colonise deep space, but end up stranded light years from their target world when the mission is sabotaged by an enemy agent, Dr. Zachary Smith.
Exact details of this new version of the show haven’t been released, other than to say it will be taking its cues from the original series, and centre around the Robinson family, who is forced to come together in a time of crisis. Stranded light years from their intended destination, they find themselves battling a strange new alien environment and also their own personal demons.
“The original series so deftly captured both drama and comedy, and that made it very appealing to a broad audience,” commented Cindy Holland, Netflix Vice President of Original Content “The current creative team’s reimagining of the series for Netflix is sure to appeal to both fans who fondly remember the original and to create a new generation of enthusiasts around the world.”
Joining Stephens will be Maxwell Jenkins (Sense8), who will play the youngest child, (DANGER) Will Robinson, and Falling Skies’ Taylor Russell who will play Judy, the eldest Robinson offspring.
The show is being written by Matt Sazama & Burk Sharpless (Dracula Untold, Power Rangers 2017), who will exec produce along with Zack Estrin (No Ordinary Family, Prison Break, Charmed), who will serves as showrunner.
Lost In Space is due to arrive on Netflix in 2018.
