The Crown is an epic new saga charting the reign of Queen Elizabeth II from Frost/Nixon and The Queen writer Peter Morgan, which lands on Netflix, 4th November 2016, and they have just released a ‘first look’ trailer for the show.
Starting at her wedding 1947, The Crown will span 60 episodes over 6 seasons as it charts the life of Queen Elizabeth (Claire Foy – Wolf Hall, Upstairs Downstairs) and Prince Philip (Matt Smith – Doctor Who) through the decades of Britain’s longest reigning monarch. Rising to the throne at the age of 25, the young Queen must oversee a declining empire, whilst forging a new relationship with legendary Prime Minister Winston Churchill (John Lithgow – Dexter, 3rd Rock from the Sun).
Additional cast includes Vanessa Kirby (Everest, About Time) as Princess Margaret, Greg Wise (Homefront, Cranford) as Lord Louis Mountbatten and Jared Harris (Mad Men, Fringe) as King George VI.
Believed to be Netflix’s most expensive series to date, the company is putting a lot of faith in Peter Morgan, but then he does do these historical British sagas rather well! His previous work includes The Deal, The Queen, & The Special Relationship, all of which chart more recent events in royal and political history. He’s also the writer behind The Last King of Scotland, The Damned United, Frost/Nixon and Rush.
You can watch The Crown when it lands on Netflix on the 4th November 2016.
