The CW Are Rebooting Dynasty…

A few years ago we had a reboot of Dallas. Now the other big US primetime soap is set to return, with Dynasty making a comeback at The CW.

Unlike the Dallas series, which was a continuation of the original, this will be a complete reboot of Dynasty, taking elements of the original series and adding a new twist. The show will follow two of America’s wealthiest families, the Carringtons and the Colbys, as they feud for control over their fortune and their children. The series will be told primarily through the perspectives of two women at odds: Fallon Carrington – daughter of billionaire Blake Carrington – and her soon-to-be stepmother, Cristal – a Hispanic woman marrying into this WASP family and America’s most powerful class. In an age where dynasties appear everywhere – from reality TV to the polling booths – this epic drama features the one percent in all its glitz and gloss, while exposing the dark underbelly: a corrupt world built on backroom deals, betrayal, and, in some cases, murder.

The original Dynasty ran for 9 season from 1981 to 1989 and was created by Richard & Esther Shapiro, and produced by Hollywood super-producer Aaron Spelling. The first season floundered a bit in the ratings, but a revamped 2nd season, and this introduction of the legendary Joan Collins as the scheming Alexis, saw ratings shoot up, eventually becoming the US’s no. 1 show.

This new version is coming from Gossip Girls’ Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, who are both writing the show, along with the Shapiros and Revenge & Limitless scribe Sallie Patrick. Schwartz, Savage, Patrick and the Shapiros will all exec produce.

The CW is probably best know at the moment for it’s various DC comic book adaptations, but it’s not the only 80’s revival it has in the works. As we announced a few months back, they also have a tv series adaptation of cult classic The Lost Boys in development from Veronica Mars & iZombie’s Rob Thomas.

There is no air date or casting for the Dynasty reboot yet as it’s still in early development, but we will let you know more when we have it.
