Channel 5 Orders 2nd Series Of Lip Sync Battle UK
Get ready to see celebrities making fools of themselves once again… Channel 5 have today announced they have commisioned a 2nd series of Lip Sync Battle UK. Spice Girl Mel B and Professor Green will both be returning as hosts.
A whole host of UK celebrity royalty have already hit the stage in series one with David Walliams and Alesha Dixon kicking things off, which was watched by 2.5 million people. Carol Vorderman, Michelle Keegan and Johnny Vegas also earnt their stripes on the Lip Sync Battle stage but this season Channel 5 are saying they will up the ante with BIGGER songs, LOUDER costumes and LARGER performances. The mics are still off, but the battle is most definitely ON!
“I’m looking forward to being back in the UK for the second series of Lip Sync Battle UK,” commented Mel B, who will be flying in from her LA home to film the series at London’s Elstree Studios. “We had so much fun filming the last series; some of the performances still have me in stitches. Who will take to the stage this time around? I can’t wait to see!”
Pro Green added “Very excited to be working with Mel again, and I’ve promised her I’ll have been to bed before we do our press day this time. It isn’t work with Mel, nor is it with the team behind the scenes – it’s a genuine giggle with a good bunch – I’m excited about what season 2 of Lip Sync Battle UK has to offer! I’ve had the image of Johnny Vegas suspended from the ceiling dressed as an angel in my head for the last year. That sort of thing does something to your psyche. This year I’d love to see Donald Trump doing Lil Wayne “Misunderstood.”
Series one of Lip Sync Battle UK launched in January 2016 and was a huge hit for Channel 5, the biggest entertainment format for the channel on record, peaking at 2.5 million viewers and averaging at 1.9 million viewers across the six part series. For those who have been living under a rock for the past 18 months, Lip Sync Battle UK is based on the pop culture phenomenon of lip syncing along to popular songs and putting a performance together, without actually singing any of the words. Lip Sync Battle UK features two well-known celebrities going head-to-head with show stopping routines of smash hit songs.
Series 2 will be coming to Channel 5 in January 2017 and the series commission will also include a Christmas special episode which will play out in December.
