Lethal Weapon Gets A Season 2 Renewal

US network Fox want more Riggs and Murtaugh it seems, and have picked up Lethal Weapon for a 2nd season they announced today.

The tv adaptation of the classic movie series has been doing solid ratings in the US, and will hopefully do the same for ITV when it begins airing here on the 3rd March 2017 at 9pm.

“Lethal Weapon continues to fire on all cylinders,” commented David Madden, Fox’s Entertainment President. “Every week, it delivers a big, fun rollercoaster ride, but also remains touchingly human and genuinely emotional, and that’s due to the chemistry that’s developed not only between Damon Wayans and Clayne Crawford, but the entire cast.”

The new series is based on the hit movie franchise and tells the story of the classic cop duo Riggs (Crawford) and Murtaugh (Wayans) as they work a crime ridden beat in modern day Los Angeles. We recently attended a screening for the first two episodes of the show, and it’s a solid update of a well loved franchise. Crawford & Wayans work well together as the leads, and it manages to convert the fun and action of the film down to the small screen, without losing the charm of the original.

“We’re absolutely delighted to be bringing Lethal Weapon to our main channel,” commented Kevin Lygo, ITV’s Director of Television on the acquisition. “It’s rare that we find an acquisition with that sweet spot potential – the best production values and hugely entertaining drama, that we think can appeal to the biggest and broadest audiences and take up a place in ITV prime time. We saw Lethal Weapon and were immediately excited by what it could add to the ITV schedule, and we’re really looking forward to bringing the series to UK viewers.”

In addition to Wayans and Crawford, Lethal Weapon stars Kevin Rahm (Mad Men), Jordana Brewster (Fast and the Furious films), Keesha Sharp (Are We There Yet?), Dante Brown (Mr Robinson), Chandler Kinney (Normal Street) and Johnathan Fernandez (Upright Citizens Brigade).

You can join the action when Lethal Weapon airs 3rd March 2017 at 9pm on ITV.
