A Judge Dredd TV Show Is In Development!

Well this is some interesting, and exciting news! According to EW, IM Global Television and U.K. games developer & publisher Rebellion have struck a deal together to develop a new, live-action, tv series called ‘Judge Dredd: Mega City One.

Set in the 22nd century, the US East Coast has become the crowded and crime-ridden megalopolis of Mega City One. The show will follow a team of Judges, as they deal with the challenges the future-shocked 22nd century throws at them.

For those of you unfamiliar with Judge Dredd, he first appeared in 1977 on the pages of 2000 AD, and went on to be an iconic character in the British comic book world. Joseph Dredd (to give him his full name) is a ‘street judge’, with the power to instantly convict, sentence, and execute offenders. He travels the streets of Mega City One on his large wheeled, machine-guns equipped, ‘Lawmaster’ motorcycle, dispensing justice… Often through the end of his ‘Lawgiver’ pistol…

Mark Stern, who shepherded in shows such as Battlestar Galactica, Warehouse 13, Eureka, Defiance, and Stargate: Atlantis whilst at Syfy, and is set to exec produce for IM Global, along with IM’s CEO Stuart Ford. They are joined by Rebellion owners Jason and Chris Kingsley, who also exec produced the well received 2012 Dredd film, starring Karl Urban.

“This is one of those seminal sci-fi properties that seems to only become and more relevant with age,” commented Stern. “Not only is it a rich world with biting social commentary, but it’s also fun as hell! As a fan of the comics and both films, it’s a dream come true to be able to work with Jason and Chris in adapting this for television.”

“We’re very excited to be beginning the journey to get more of Judge Dredd’s Mega-City One on the television screen,” added Jason and Chris. “Thanks to the legions of fans who have kept up pressure on social media, and a lot of background work and enthusiasm, we aim to make a big budget production that will satisfy both our vast comics audience and the even greater general screen-watching public.”

There has been a constant campaign online to bring Dredd back to screen after the 2012 movie wiped away the memories of the 1995 Sylvester Stallone version, proving you could do it right. A tv series seems like an excellent way to go!

Judge Dredd: Mega City One is only in the early stages of development right now, so there’s no talent attached yet. I wonder if Karl Urban would be up for reprising the part?.. We’ll definitely be watching this story closely, and bring you more news as we get it!

As one nice little additional tease, they also dropped this poster!
