UK Viewers Get First Dibs on Star Wars: The Last of the Jedi

by Jason Smith

Early UK Release Date Set for Star Wars

Star Wars fans in the UK best dust off their lightsabers and belt up for the next edition of the epic adventure in a galaxy far far away. ‘Star Wars: the Last Jedi’ is due to hit the screens on 14th December 2017, a day before the 3D spectacular is unleashed on audiences across the USA.  Star Wars 8 is particularly poignant as it’s the final chapter in Carrie Fisher’s long and illustrious role as the inimitable General Leia. And, if rumours are anything to go by, Rey and Kylo Ren are tipped to take centre stage, with the spotlight focussing firmly on what can only be called a ‘deeper’ relationship.

The UK release follows hot on the heels of the December 13th ‘dates with Star Wars destiny’ in Sweden, Norway, The Netherlands, Italy and France. This is not the first time the Lucasfilm and Disney Duo have given audiences across the Atlantic ‘first dibs’.  Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story were also released a day earlier in the UK.  By all accounts, the distributors pulled off a marketing masterstroke, as The Force generated £9.68 million on the opening day to set the highest-ever box office record in the UK!

As a timely spoiler alert, we advise those of you in the USA and Canada to avoid online news and social media sites during the hours preceding the release of the movie in your home city or town.  We expect a deluge of information to go public immediately after the first viewing.  So instead of getting the ‘big reveal’ from someone else, why not spend those few hours enjoying entertainment of a different kind.  Gambling on your desktop or mobile phone is a winner, as there’s plenty of real money to be made.  If you’re looking for a gambling site, there are really helpful independent guides that review casinos and games and list the best casino bonuses. Why not try the website here and ‘May the Force be With You!”

Although we don’t have inside information regarding the storyline of The Last Jedi, we do know the title refers to more than one Jedi.  As a result, any rumours that Luke Skywalker makes a permanent exit are likely to be unfounded.  According to reports, the eighth episode of the Skywalker Saga continues from where The Force left off.  You’ll encounter all the characters that have made the franchise a runaway success such as C3-PO, R2-D2, & Chewbacca. Plus, if rumours are to be believed of sightings on set, possibly an appearance by a certain sand hating Jedi turned Sith Lord, either in flashback or as a force ghost. The remaining original cast continues into the eighth edition but there are few surprises written into the script as far as brand new characters are concerned. Academy Award winners, Benicio del Toro and Laura Dern make debut appearances as a nefarious villain and Vice Admiral Amilyn Holdo, respectively.  The comparatively little known Kelly Marie Tran has been cast as Resistance maintenance worker, Rose Tico, in what is described as the largest role for a Star Wars newcomer.

The trailer and some of the marketing material has also been somewhat revealing, especially in the case of the young scavenger Rey, who made her maiden appearance in The Force Awakens.  In marketing material for the movie, Rey is seen training, has a neat cut above her left eyebrow  and is still holding onto the blue lightsaber that once belonged to Anakin Skywalker, then Luke. Whispers abound there is a deep secret to be revealed as to her true familial roots.  In addition to the Rey conundrum, Star Wars: The Last Jedi will reputedly explore the stories behind the sensitive Stormtrooper turned Resistance fighter, Finn and the dashing x-wing fighter pilot, Poe Dameron, played by Golden Globe Award winner, Oscar Isaac.  Other highlights to look forward to are a brand new planet; epic sets featuring oceans, deserts, mountains and forests and a cool craft dubbed a ‘bio-hexacrypt’.

If you want to be among the first people on earth to experience the eighth episode of the dazzling Star Wars film series, be sure to get to a box office near you long before the UK release date on the 14th December 2017.
