Breaking Down Game of Thrones Season 7 Trailer 2 #WinterIsHere

by Dave Elliott

Whilst most of the UK has been melting in the sun, over in Westeros, #WinterIsHere as HBO drop a 2nd trailer for ‘Game of Thrones’ Season 7.

As the trailer opens we see Sansa walking through Winterfell’s Godswood whilst the ever-scheming Littlefinger provides a voiceover saying “Don’t fight in the north or the south. Fight every battle, everywhere, always in your mind.” Is this a call not to pick a side, and not back Jon?

Next, we have a shot of Bran and Meera finally making it back to The Wall, as the gate opens to let them pass. Jon also appears to be back on the other side of The Wall, presumably due to the looming Whitewalker threat.

This is followed by shots establishing the locations of the various leads – Cersei (boo hiss) in King’s Landing; Daenerys stroking a map in (what we presume is) Dragonstone, the ancestral seat of House Targaryen; Arya back in the Westeros; Jaime at the Red Keep; And Littlefinger lurking… as he tends to do…

Next, Dany is wandering beside some very cool looking rock faces at Dragonstone, whilst Drogon, Rhaegal, and Viserion stretch their wings overhead, and a concerned looking Tyrion takes a walk on the cliffs.

Interestingly, Jon takes on voiceover duties at this point saying “For centuries our families fought together against their common enemy. Despite their differences, together. We need to do the same if we’re going to survive. Because the enemy is real, it’s always been real.” Who is Jon trying to convince here? Is it Dany? Or could it be Cersei? The reference to families fighting together against a common enemy might actually suggest the latter. This would also fit with the fact that Cersei has never been convinced of the Whitewalkers existence. Or could it be that Jon has spoken to Bran and is embracing his Targaryen heritage?

Next, we get various shots in quick succession – Beric Dondarrion armed with a flaming sword; Various battles both on land and sea; Brienne and Pod in the Winterfell; Jamie charging with a lance; Grey Worm and the Unsullied; the Hound (who looks pissed about something); And burning ships with some more of (the now very large) Drogon with Dany on his back!

Finally, Sansa provides a very ominous voiceover… “When the snows fall, and the white winds blow, the lone wolf dies. But the pack survives,” ending on a shot of Jon rather outnumbered by a legion of wights! Is Jon going to become the ‘Kenny’ of Game Of Thrones and be killed again this season?

We will find out when ‘Game of Thrones’ Season 7 airs on Sky Atlantic from Monday, 17th July 2017 at 2am!
