More 'Once Upon A Time' Season 7 News From D23

As has been pretty well advertised, Once Upon A Time Season 7 marks a new chapter for the show. Most of the cast has gone, with the exception of Lana Parrilla (Evil Queen/Regina), Robert Carlyle (Rumplestiltskin/Mr Gold), Colin O’Donoghue (Hook/Killian) and Andrew J. West (the new, older Henry). Now, thanks to Disney’s D23 Expo, we have a bit more information about the shape this revamped show will take (OBVIOUSLY *SPOILERS* INCOMING!)

As we mentioned last week, they’ve announced 5 new ladies who are joining the cast, one of whom was Dania Ramirez (‘The Sopranos’, ‘Heroes’, ‘Devious Maids’). It appears she will be playing Henry’s wife, and a new version of Cinderella. If you’re thinking “haven’t we already had Cinderella on the show?” you would be correct (played by Jessy Schram).  However, this is “a different version of Cinderella,” according to exec producer Eddy Kitsis. “If we remember Henry’s grandfather is Prince Charming, so we have the grandson of Prince Charming with a new Cinderella.” She is also mother to Lucy (Alison Fernandez), who popped up in the Season 6 finale to tell Henry “Your family needs you!”

Henry & Cinderella

If this is confusing you, it is apparently explained in the season opener.  The new story will see Henry and Cinders in the area of ‘Hyperion Heights’ in modern day Seattle, but will have flashbacks to life in the Enchanted Forest. As part of this, we will get a cameo from Jared S Gilmore (young Henry), as we see why he left his home.

“Henry’s the author of the first book, but he wants to go to the place where the happy ending isn’t written… What’s interesting to us is that these books tell the stories, a lot of them about these classic characters, and as you know for the first six seasons we did twists and turns on them. New books could have different versions of some stories and ways of looking at them that maybe we’ve seen before, maybe some new characters as well,” says Kitsis. So this season is basically a new ‘book’ for Henry.

Despite ditching most of the original cast, that’s not the last we’ve seen of them. When questioned whether we would have cameos from other original cast members, Kitsis says “I would be disappointed if we didn’t.” Fellow exec producer Adam Horowitz then adds “That means yes.”

Once Upon A Time‘ should return to Netflix UK on 7th October 2017.
