Netflix has renewed Jason Bateman’s drama series ‘Ozark‘, for a 2nd season the streaming service has announced.

For those that haven’t caught the show yet, it follows the Byrdes and their teenage kids, Charlotte and Jonah, who are, for all intents and purposes, your average family with ordinary lives. Except for the job of the father, Marty (Bateman), a Chicago financial advisor who also serves as the top money launderer for the second largest drug cartel in Mexico. When things go awry, Marty must uproot his family from the skyscrapers of Chicago and relocate to the lazy lake region of the Missouri Ozarks. Unlike the work Bateman is usually known for, this is a dark drama which explores capitalism, family dynamics and survival through the eyes of (anything but) ordinary Americans.

Although we don’t ever get ratings from Netflix, the fact that the show was only released to the streaming service a month ago, and has now got a renewal is probably an extremely positive sign of its popularity. Season 2 will consist of 10 episodes.

Other cast includes Academy Award nominee Laura Linney (The Big C, Mr. Holmes, Frasier) who plays Marty’s wife Wendy, Esai Morales (Chicago P.D., Criminal Minds), Julia Garner (The Americans, The Get Down), Marc Menchaca (Homeland, Flashforward), Jason Butler Harner (Ray Donovan, The Blacklist) and Harris Yulin (Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, 24).

The series is written by Chris Mundy (‘Low Winter Sun’, ‘Criminal Minds’), and produced by Bateman’s Aggregate Films in association with Media Rights Capital for Netflix.

Ozark Season 1 is available to stream on to Netflix now.
