3 times Emmy-winning composer Gary Lionelli has had a fairly diverse career. He started out working on cartoons such as ‘Tom & Jerry’, and ‘Dexter’s Laboratory’ before a major gear shift into scoring documentaries. His most notable recent work was the groundbreaking documentary ‘O.J.: Made in America’ which not only picked up multiple Emmys but also an Oscar, due to it being released as a seven-and-a-half-hour film as well as a tv series!
Ezra Edelman’s extraordinary documentary revisits and redefines everything about the O.J. Simpson case, from the Bronco chase, through the trial, and the aftermath following the verdict. Gary’s equally extraordinary score for the series/film morphs in and out of different musical genres, from bluesy film noir, to string quartets, to electronica, so we discuss how he found the sound for the project.
