Competition: Win A Bundle Of STUDIO GHIBLI Films Including ‘The Red Turtle’!

STUDIOCANAL is pleased to announce that the Oscar-nominated and highly acclaimed THE RED TURTLE – a deeply moving and uplifting story about the power of the human spirit – arrives on Digital Download on 18th September 2017 and on DVD and Double Play (Blu-ray and DVD) on 25th September 2017. To celebrate, we’re giving away a bundle of STUDIO GHIBLI films on DVD!

As well as a DVD copy of THE RED TURTLE, the titles included are:

  • Spirited Away
  • Howl’s Moving Castle
  • My Neighbour Totoro
  • The Tale of the Princess Kaguya
  • The Wind Rises

Studio Ghibli’s first international co-production from Oscar-winning director Michael Dudok de Wit (Father and Daughter), THE RED TURTLE recounts the milestones in the life of a human being through the story of a man shipwrecked on a tropical island inhabited by turtles, crabs and birds.

Bringing together the creative powers of Japan’s most beloved animation studio and the gentle sensibility of Dudok de Wit’s storytelling, the film is brought to life by Prima Linea’s stellar animation team, helmed by Disney veteran Jean-Christophe Lie (Zarafa, Tarzan, Hercules) and the beautiful, dialogue-less screenplay by award-winning French writer and director Pascale Ferran (Lady Chatterley, Bird People).

I could even tell you that Studio Ghibli were the only ones to attempt a visual retelling of the Wizard of Earthsea stories, resulting in a not too shabby adaptation. Of course, then there’s the fact I wore out my tape of Nausicaa because I watched it too many times!

I’ve seen some of these on Film4, but they’ll be much better without adverts

When I was a kid I watched Ghost in the Shell and absolutely loved it and I used to watch random anime late on Channel 4 (back in the ’90s)! But I didn’t see any more Anime until a few months ago when I watched Grave of the Fireflies, one of the best films I’ve ever seen, it was magnificent. It brought back a lot of memories from my childhood and now I’m looking for more. Four of the films in this prize are top of my list of must see films and I’ve just seen (literally today) a review of for The Red Turtle and it looks incredible. I’ve just started Watching Full Metal Alchamist and, so far, it’s really good, but my anime education, particularly the masters at Studio Ghibli needs a huge a boost. These films are among the best Studio Ghibli have ever made and I would be honored to add them to my collection.

I would like to win because Studio Ghibli’s films have always held a special place in my heart having grown up watching them over the years. They are timeless modern fables that celebrate imagination, hope and the wonders of childhood; a testament to the enduring human spirit and a timely reminder that the greatest joys are always found in the simpler things in life.

Much to my embarrassment and shame, I’ve never seen any Studio Ghibli movies, although I’m aware of them and how stunning they appear… winning these would give me the perfect introduction to them!
