Channel 5 has landed the UK Premiere rights to ABC comedy Speechless actress Minnie Driver “announced” on Twitter this evening… I say “announced” as she initially didn’t seem bowled over by the idea… She tweeted about the sale, which appears to have been handled by Fox International Distribution, saying:

Ouch… The British actress has been living in LA the last few years, but was reassured by fans of the show that the channel isn’t quite as bad as when she left, leading to a number of humorous exchanges such as:

And:

‘Speechless’ stars Minnie Driver as Maya DiMeo, a mom who will do anything for her husband, Jimmy (John Ross Bowie), and kids Ray (Mason Cook), Dylan (Kyla Kennedy), and JJ (Micah Fowler), her eldest son with cerebral palsy. As Maya fights injustices both real and imagined, the family works to make a new home for themselves, and searches for just the right person to give JJ his “voice.” The show is already on its 2nd season in the US, and on track to pick up a 3rd season renewal.

At this point, we actually don’t know if ‘Speechless’ will air on Channel 5 directly, or if it’ll come to 5USA, 5Star, or one of their other channels. We also don’t yet have an idea of the UK air date, but we’ll let you know once Channel 5 get back to us.
