Channel 5 has landed the UK Premiere rights to ABC comedy ‘Speechless‘ actress Minnie Driver “announced” on Twitter this evening… I say “announced” as she initially didn’t seem bowled over by the idea… She tweeted about the sale, which appears to have been handled by Fox International Distribution, saying:
Well…UK Twitter. Fox saw fit to sell Speechless to Channel 5. So there we’ll be, sandwiched btwn Botched Plastic Surgery and Pepa Pig. ?

Ouch… The British actress has been living in LA the last few years, but was reassured by fans of the show that the channel isn’t quite as bad as when she left, leading to a number of humorous exchanges such as:
if it means i can watch it legally, i will put up with all the naked Keith Chegwins they can throw at me

I honestly never thought naked Keith Chegwin would be a challenge you’d ever have to face- so thank you. https://t.co/g5MEHFo724

And:
It does have the cricket highlights, mind, so it’s not all terrible

This is the best and most British appeasement . Thank you. https://t.co/XNVB2IOhTA

‘Speechless’ stars Minnie Driver as Maya DiMeo, a mom who will do anything for her husband, Jimmy (John Ross Bowie), and kids Ray (Mason Cook), Dylan (Kyla Kennedy), and JJ (Micah Fowler), her eldest son with cerebral palsy. As Maya fights injustices both real and imagined, the family works to make a new home for themselves, and searches for just the right person to give JJ his “voice.” The show is already on its 2nd season in the US, and on track to pick up a 3rd season renewal.
At this point, we actually don’t know if ‘Speechless’ will air on Channel 5 directly, or if it’ll come to 5USA, 5Star, or one of their other channels. We also don’t yet have an idea of the UK air date, but we’ll let you know once Channel 5 get back to us.
