I know this isn’t a new show, but it’s a very beloved series, and some news I think UK based geeks and sci-fi fans will be very interested in! J. Michael Straczynski’s classic sci-fi show ‘Babylon 5’ is returning to primetime UK tv for the first time in 18 years. The rerun will kick off with ‘Babylon 5: The Gathering’, from Monday, 13th November 2017 at 7pm on Pick TV.
It’s hard to believe it’s been 18 years since seminal sci-fi series Babylon 5 was available on ‘normal’ telly. It’s been behind a paywall over the years but often lost in late night schedules. That’s all about to change, however, as free-to-air channel Pick has announced that they have the rights to the full five seasons, plus all the movies, and they gave the show a spot it deserves at 8pm every weeknight (the films will start at 7pm).
Making something of a ‘TV Moment’ out of it, the guys at Pick fully appreciate the importance of the series to its fans and the genre alike, telling Geektown exclusively that: “When a series as influential as Babylon 5 comes along, it’s only right that it gets the respect it deserves. We wanted to make it available at a great time for old fans and people who will be coming new to it. It’s was a game-changer for the sci-fi genre and it’s still completely relevant today.”
For the uninitiated (we can only assume you’ve been living in a black hole), ‘Babylon 5’ launched in 1993 with the feature-length pilot, ‘Babylon 5: The Gathering’. The series focused on long arcs depicting personal and political drama on board a five-mile-long space station at a time of looming war between the Centauri and the Narn. Visionary creator J Michael Straczynski penned 92 of the 100 eps and that control and ambition allowed a large cast the time to develop a soaring, intricately detailed and ground-breaking show.
Pick’s run on ‘Babylon 5’ starts on Monday 13th November at 7pm.
