‘Suits’ May See Patrick J. Adams & Meghan Markle Exit In Season 7
The excellent ‘Suits‘ could be heading for a major shake-up at the end of Season 7 according to reports, as two of it’s lead actors are rumoured to be leaving the series. Patrick J. Adams, who plays Mike Ross, and co-star Meghan Markle, who plays his fiancée and legal associate Rachel Zane, could be handing in their notices to the law firm.
The show originally focused on the fact Mike was working as a lawyer at the firm, despite not having a law degree, after being hired by legendary lawyer Harvey Specter (Gabriel Macht). Now, 7 seasons in, the issue of Mike’s legitimacy has… somewhat… been resolved, and the show has developed into much more of an ensemble legal drama.
The exit of these two original cast members comes after we saw Gina Torres depart last season as Jessica Pearson, co-founder and former managing partner of the firm, although she has since made a number of guest appearances. the move was due to her needing to spend more time in LA, but had said if the show wasn’t shot in NYC, she’d be on it forever. This led to her pitching the idea of a spin-off series, based on her character moving from law into politics, which will be ‘backdoor-piloted’ in the Season 7 finale.
I love ‘Suits’, and both Adams and Markle are brilliant in their roles, but I’m particularly fond of the back-and-forth between Mike and Harvey, which I will miss if Adams leaves. However, the introduction of characters such as Harvey’s old partner Alex Williams (Dulé Hill), and the building up of Donna (Sarah Rafferty), and Louis’ (Rick Hoffman) roles the past few seasons, has shown there could be a life for the series without the Mike/Harvey dynamic, on which the show was originally based.
A lot has changed in the personal lives of both actors, who were both relatively unknown when the show started in 2011. Since the show has been on air, Patrick got married to ‘Pretty Little Liars’ star Troian Bellisario, and Meghan got divorced and has been dating our very own Prince Harry since June last year.
‘Suits’ is currently on its mid-season break, but is due to return in early 2018, where we expect to finally see Mike and Rachel finally get married. Officially, the show has yet to be picked up for an 8th Season, although a renewal is very likely.
‘Suits‘ airs on Netflix in the UK and is due to return for Season 7, part 2, in early 2018.
