David Fincher’s excellent serial-killer drama Mindhunter has officially landed a 2nd Season renewal Netflix has announced today.

Created by Joe Penhall, the show poses the question “How do we get ahead of crazy if we don’t know how crazy thinks?” Jonathan Groff (‘Glee’, ‘Frozen’, ‘Looking’) & Holt McCallany (‘Blue Bloods’, ‘CSI: Miami’, ‘Heroes’) star as FBI agents Holden Ford (Groff) and Bill Tench (McCallany) who set out on a sinister investigative odyssey to discover the brutal answers. As members of the FBI’s Behavioural Sciences Unit, they start to interview serial killers in an effort to help solve crimes. Anna Torv (‘Fringe’) and Hannah Gross (‘Unless’) also star.

Given the extremely positive reviews for ‘Mindhunter’ Season 1, the renewal had largely been expected. Fincher, who directed a number of the episodes, and also exec produces along with Hollywood actress Charlize Theron, actually teased the 2nd Season throughout the first series.

Each episode contains little vignettes featuring the notorious BTK serial-killer, Dennis Rader, apparently preparing to commit murder. At no point does this character ever cross paths with FBI agents Ford (Groff) or Tench (McCallany), and seems to just be there as a set up of what’s to come. It’s a gutsy move, given the renewal wasn’t guaranteed, but then he is David Fincher.

Mindhunter’ Season 2 is expected to arrive in 2018.
