‘Stranger Things’ Officially Gets A 3rd Season

As if there was any doubt… Netflix has officially announced Stranger Things will return for Season 3.

The 80’s nostalgia horror series has been a massive hit for the streaming service with both critics and fans alike. The show picked up 18 Emmy nods, with 5 wins at the awards this year. It also had nominations for Writers Guild of America, Television Critics Association, Teen Choice, Hugo, Golden Globe, and National Television Awards, and wins from the Screen Actors Guild, Saturn, Producers Guild of America, and MTV Movie & TV Awards. Whilst Netflix doesn’t release viewing figures, Nielsen (the US ratings people) estimates 15.8 million people in the US viewed the recent 2nd Season in the first 3 days of release… But I think it’s fair to say it’s a massive hit worldwide.

Co-creators the Duffer brothers have previously said they would like to make, at least, 4 seasons of the show, although have said there could be more after that. “If we’re able to, there will be at least four, there could be more,” commented Ross Duffer. “I think there’s going to come a point where why aren’t these people leaving Hawkins? Like we’re going to stretch credibility. It wasn’t intended to be a seven-season thing.”

For those that have yet to see it (what are you doing with your lives!), the show is set in 1980’s Indiana, where, in Season 1, a young boy, Will Byers (Noah Schnapp), vanishes into thin air. As friends, family and local police search for answers, they are drawn into an extraordinary mystery involving top-secret government experiments, terrifying supernatural forces and one very strange little girl.

‘Stranger Things 2’ moved the action on by a year, and the citizens of Hawkins, Indiana are still reeling from the horrors of the Demogorgon and the secrets of Hawkins Lab. Will has been rescued from the Upside Down but a bigger, sinister entity still threatens those who survived. I dread to think what horrors they have in store for the gang when the show returns for Season 3.

We don’t know yet exactly when Stranger Things Season 3 will land on Netflix. There was a 15-month gap between seasons 1 & 2, but that could be because they weren’t sure if a 2nd Season would come. This time around, the Duffer brothers have already been prepping for a 3rd Season, so it’s likely we may see it around Autumn 2018 again.
