It looks like a new superhero will be coming to Netflix UKBlack Lightning! According to a report in Deadline, the latest DC superhero to land his own show has been picked up by the streaming service to air outside of the US and Canada. We get it in the UK on 23rd January 2018.

The show stars Cress Williams (‘Prison Break’) as Black Lightning aka Jefferson Pierce, a retired superhero who is forced back into the criminal bashing game when his daughter and a star student get caught up with a local gang. He is an Olympic level athlete & skilled martial artist, who can also generate and manipulate electricity.

Jefferson’s family will be played by China Anne McClain (‘Descendants’, ‘Wizards of Waverly Place’) as Jennifer Pierce, and Nafessa Williams (‘Code Black’) as Anissa Pierce.

The series is produced by Greg Berlanti and the Arrowverse team, but (for now at least) it won’t crossover with the other shows, so shouldn’t cause continuity issues. The adaptation has been created by husband and wife team of Mara Brock Akil and Salim Akil (‘The Game’, ‘Being Mary Jane’.)

Black Lightning‘ comes to Netflix UK on the 23rd January 2018.
