Jon Bernthal is set to return for more punishing, as Netflix announce Marvel’s ‘The Punisher‘ will return for a 2nd season.
The renewal had largely been expected given the positive reaction to the series. Let’s be honest, they renewed ‘Iron Fist’, which got universally mauled by the public and critics, so ‘The Punisher’ returning was, pretty much, a shoe-in.
The show sees Frank Castle (Bernthal) exacting revenge on those responsible for the death of his wife and children, and uncovering a conspiracy that runs far deeper than New York’s criminal underworld. Now known throughout the city as The Punisher, he must discover the truth about injustices that affect more than his family alone.
Marvel’s The Punisher Season 1 cast featured Ebon Moss-Bachrach (Girls, The Lake House), Deborah Ann Woll (Marvel’s Daredevil, True Blood), Ben Barnes (Westworld, The Chronicles of Narnia), Amber Rose Revah (Emerald City, Indian Summers), Michael Nathanson (The Knick, Wolf of Wall Street), Jaime Ray Newman (Bates Motel), Jason R Moore (A Lonely Place for Dying), Daniel Webber (11.22.63) and Paul Schulze (Nurse Jackie).
We don’t know when we’re likely to see Frank Castle back on our streams though, as Marvel/Netflix already have a number of returning dramas to get through. ‘Jessica Jones’ Season 2 would appear to be next up, airing 8th March 2018. That should be followed by ‘Luke Cage’ Season 2, then ‘Daredevil’ Season 3 and ‘Iron Fist’ Season 2. That likely places ‘The Punisher’ Season 2 in 2019 or 2020, although it’s possible we may see the character pop up in one of the other shows first.
Marvel’s The Punisher Season 1 was executive produced by showrunner Steve Lightfoot (Hannibal), Jim Chory (Marvel’s Daredevil, Marvel’s Jessica Jones, Marvel’s Luke Cage) and Jeph Loeb (Marvel’s Daredevil, Marvel’s Jessica Jones, Marvel’s Luke Cage) who also serves as Marvel’s Head of Television. Marvel’s The Punisher is produced by Marvel Television in association with ABC Studios for Netflix.
