Espionage drama ‘Homeland‘ will come to an end with Season 8 according to its star Claire Danes.
‘Homeland’ stars Danes as bipolar ex-CIA officer Carrie Mathison who, with the help of her long-time mentor and former boss Saul Berenson (Mandy Patinkin), fearlessly risks everything, including her personal well-being and even sanity, at every turn in an effort to keep her country safe.
The news doesn’t come as a huge surprise after US network Showtime renewed the series for two seasons following Season 6, which is often a sign with a drama that they are heading towards an endgame. Danes dropped the news on Howard Stern’s show yesterday commenting she is “really conflicted” about the series coming to an end. Although she does go on to say about her role “I’ll be ready… She’s a lot, this Carrie-freakin’ Mathison, she’s under constant duress. It’s a workout, so I’ll be ready for a reprieve from that. I’ve never done anything this long, I mean, I’ve been married for a year longer, but, you know…” Danes also went on to announce she is pregnant with her 2nd child with husband Hugh Dancy, although the pregnancy is not expected to interfere with production on the show.
It should be noted, the network Showtime themselves have yet to announce that ‘Homeland’ Season 8 will be the final season. ‘Homeland’ is a show which has gone through a lot of changes over the years, so it’s entirely possible the network is thinking of continuing it, but without Danes. They would also likely be without current showrunner Alex Gansa, as he had previously said he expects Season 8 to be his last as well.
‘Homeland‘ Season 7 is currently airing Sunday nights at 9pm on Channel 4.
