It seems we won’t be short on US procedural dramas come the Autumn as CBS announces a shedload of renewals for its shows.

The US network has handed out new seasons to ‘Bull’, ‘Hawaii Five-O’, ‘MacGyver’, ‘Madam Secretary’, ‘Blue Bloods’, ‘NCIS: New Orleans’, and ‘NCIS: Los Angeles’. They joined the networks other previously announced renewals which include ‘The Big Bang Theory’, ‘Young Sheldon’, ‘Mom’, ‘NCIS’, ‘SEAL Team’, and ‘S.W.A.T.’.

That brings us to the sticky question of what shows are missing… Currently, that list includes ‘Criminal Minds’, Alan Cumming’s new drama ‘Instinct’, the hilarious ‘Life In Pieces’, the drama ‘Scorpion’ and comedies ‘Kevin Can Wait’, Matt LeBlanc’s ‘Man with a Plan’ and the sitcom ‘Superior Donuts’… Of those shows, it’s hard to say what exactly will happen.

‘Criminal Minds’ airs on CBS but is owned by ABC, and in its 14th season, which means it’s expensive to run. CBS and ABC usually manage to hammer out a deal, but it always comes down to the wire. ‘Scorpion’ and the various sitcoms have all been struggling in the ratings so they are very much “on the bubble”, so we’ll have to wait and see what happens when the CBS upfront presentation comes around next month. ‘Instinct’ also hasn’t set ratings alight either, but it did come in as a mid-season replacement so it’s possible it can turn it around.

Whatever happens, E4, Sky and Fox UK, who air most of the renewed shows, between them should be pretty happy this evening.
