Netflix is bringing off-the-wall comedy Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt to an end with the 4th Season it is being reported, although there are talks of a movie to possibly follow once the show finally wraps.

Created by ’30 Rock’s’ Tina Fey and Robert Carlock, the series stars Ellie Kemper (‘The LEGO Batman Movie’, ‘The Office’) as Kimmy, a 29-year-old woman who is adjusting to life in New York City after spending 15 years in a doomsday cult. The relentlessly upbeat girl is determined to not become a victim, as she reclaims her life and starts over in the Big Apple.

Whilst we don’t know ratings for the series (because… Netflix…), ‘Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt’, which was streaming services’ first original half-hour comedy, has done amazingly well at being nominated for awards. So far it has picked up 16 Primetime Emmy Award nominations, including 3 nominations for Outstanding Comedy Series, plus various nominations and wins with the Television Critics Association and Writers Guild of America.

The decision to end the show does seem to be a creative choice by Tina Fey & Robert Carlock rather than anything more nefarious. The idea to end with a movie is described as “an ongoing conversation” between Netflix and the show creators, so may or may not happen.

The 4th Season of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt is being split in half this time around, with the first 6 episodes airing on Netflix from Wednesday, 30th May 2018, and the final 6 coming later in the year. The streaming service also released a new trailer for Season 4 yesterday which you can see below.
