Channel 4 Sets May UK Premiere Date For ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ Season 2

Channel 4 has set a May UK air date for the much anticipated 2nd Season of The Handmaid’s Tale the channel has announced today.

The second series of the multi-Emmy-winning US drama set in a dystopian society that treats women as property of the state, forcing many into sexual servitude, starring Elisabeth Moss and Joseph Fiennes. Offred reckons with the consequences of a dangerous decision while haunted by memories from her past and the violent beginnings of Gilead.

For those of you needing a little recap of where we left things, Offred (Moss) is now pregnant, not by her Commander (Fiennes), but due to the affair she had with Nick (Max Minghella). However, that doesn’t stop her having to face the “consequences” she was warned about for disobeying Aunt Lydia’s (Ann Dowd) order to stone one of her fellow handmaid’s to death and then trying to escape. Muzzled, Hannibal Lecter style, it would appear she may be heading to the dreaded “colonies” – i.e. the polluted wasteland areas outside the “comforts” of the main cities.

Season 2 will be shaped by Offred’s pregnancy and her ongoing fight to free her future child from the dystopian horrors of Gilead. “Gilead is within you” is a favourite saying of Aunt Lydia. Now, Offred and all our characters will fight against – or succumb to – this dark truth.

The Handmaid’s Tale‘ Season 2 premieres on Channel 4 from Sunday, 20th May 2018 at 9pm.
