Asa Butterfield & Gillian Anderson To Star In ‘Sex Education’ For Netflix

If you were wondering what ‘The X-Files’ star Gillian Anderson would be doing next now that she’s opted not to play Scully anymore, ‘The Fall’ is over, and won’t be returning as Media on ‘American Gods’, we now know. She’s playing the sex therapist mother to Asa Butterfield (‘Ender’s Game’, ‘Hugo’) in Netflix’s new show Sex Education.

Meet Otis Milburn (Butterfield) – a socially awkward high school virgin who lives with his mother, Jean, a sex therapist (Anderson). Surrounded by manuals, videos and tediously open conversations about sex, Otis is a reluctant expert on the subject. When his home life is revealed at school, Otis realizes that he can use his specialist knowledge to gain status. He teams up with Maeve, a whip-smart bad-girl, and together they set up an underground sex therapy clinic to deal with their fellow students’ weird and wonderful problems. Through his analysis of teenage sexuality, Otis realises he may need some therapy of his own.

Sex Education also stars Emma Mackey as Maeve, Ncuti Gatwa as Otis’s best friend Eric, Connor Swindells as class bully Adam, and Kedar Williams-Stirling as head boy and all-around heartthrob Jackson.

Sex Education is an 8 part Netflix original series created and written by Laurie Nunn and directed by Ben Taylor (‘Catastrophe’). The series is produced by UK based production company Eleven, run by creative directors Joel Wilson and Jamie Campbell and MD Dan Cheesbrough. The show will debut on the streaming service in 2019.
