Canadian Broadcaster Picks Up ‘Bad Boys’ TV Spin-Off ‘LA’s Finest’

In an interesting plot twist, LA’s Finest, the female-led TV spin-off series to the ‘Bad Boys’ movie franchise, has been picked up by Canadian broadcaster Bell Media it was announced today.

‘L.A.’s Finest’ sees Gabrielle Union reprise her film role as Syd Burnett, who was last seen in Miami taking down a drug cartel. Syd has left her complicated past behind to become an LAPD detective and pursue all the fun Los Angeles offers. But things get a little crazy when her new partner, Nancy McKenna (Jessica Alba), a working mom with an equally complex past, learns that Syd’s unapologetic lifestyle might be masking a greater personal secret.

The show was originally piloted for US network NBC, but they opted not to pick up the series, which led Sony Pictures Television Studios to start shopping it around elsewhere.

The series is produced by Jerry Bruckheimer Television, Primary Wave, 2.0 Entertainment and Sony TV. The pilot was written by Brandon Margolis and Brandon Sonnier (‘The Blacklist’) with Anton Cropper (‘Suits’, ‘Black-ish’) directing. Alba and Union will exec produce alongside Jerry Bruckheimer, Sonnier and Margolis.

It’s still way too early for a UK pick up on LA’s Finest but we’ll let you know when we hear something.
