Amazon has dropped the first trailer for its upcoming small screen adaptation of ‘Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan‘, which is due to land on the streaming service on 31st August 2018.
The series is a reinvention with a modern sensibility of the unexpected Tom Clancy hero. It centres on Jack Ryan, an up-and-coming CIA analyst thrust into a dangerous field assignment for the first time. The series follows the titular character as he uncovers a pattern in terrorist communication that launches him into the centre of a dangerous gambit with a new breed of terrorism that threatens destruction on a global scale.
The one-hour, eight-episode dramatic series stars John Krasinski (‘A Quiet Place’, ’13 Hours’) as Jack Ryan, as well as Wendell Pierce (‘The Wire’) as James Greer and Abbie Cornish (‘Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri’) as Cathy Mueller. It is executive produced by Carlton Cuse (‘Lost’, ‘Bates Motel’) and Graham Roland (‘Fringe’, ‘Prison Break’), who created the series for television and serve as co-showrunners. Academy Award-nominated director Morten Tyldum (‘The Imitation Game’) directed the pilot and Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes produce the show.
It’s fair to say, Amazon has a lot of confidence in the series, having already renewed it for a second season before the first has even aired. “With so much early anticipation for Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan from our customers and personally having the pleasure to preview the exhilarating, action-packed first season, we are excited to greenlight a second series months ahead of its debut,” commented Jennifer Salke, Head of Amazon Studios. “The new series will take our unexpected hero to a new, exciting and dangerous world.”
That “anticipation” she mentions comes after an advert for the series which Amazon ran during the Super Bowl saw a more than 400% increase in Prime members placing Tom Clancy’s ‘Jack Ryan’ on their watch list.
Cuse, Roland, Krasinski, and Tyldum will exec produce the series with Bay along with Andrew Form (‘Transformers’, ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’) and Brad Fuller for Platinum Dunes. Additionally, Daniel Sackheim, (‘The Americans’), Mace Neufeld (‘Patriot Games’, ‘Clear and Present Danger’, ‘The Sum of All Fears’ and ‘Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit’), Skydance’s David Ellison, Dana Goldberg (‘Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation’, ‘Star Trek Beyond’) and Marcy Ross (‘Grace and Frankie’, ‘Altered Carbon’) also exec produce with Lindsey Springer and Allyson Seeger serving as co-executive producers.
Amazon will debut ‘Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan‘, 31st August 2018 on Amazon Prime Video.
