Netflix Sets November Premiere Date For 6th & Final Season Of ‘House of Cards’

by Dave Elliott

House of Cards will return for it’s 6th and final season in November 2018 Netflix has announced.

The last season of the political drama will see Robin Wright return as Claire Underwood who is now President Of The United States. Exact details on the new season are somewhat scarce, so it’s not yet clear exactly how they will explain the absence of Kevin Spacey’s Frank, who obviously won’t be appearing after he was fired due to allegations regarding his sexual conduct. However, the previous season had ended with Claire taking up the role of President, which was fortunate, as it makes the transition into a Spacey-less final season a little easier.

We do know there are a number of new faces for this final outing including Cody Fern (‘War Horse’, ‘American Crime Story’), Diane Lane (‘Batman v Superman’, ‘Jumper’), and Greg Kinnear (‘As Good as It Gets’, ‘The Kennedys’). Michael Kelly returns as Doug, along with Jayne Atkinson as Catherine, Boris McGiver as Tom, and Derek Cecil as Seth. They will be joined by Campbell Scott as Special Adviser Mark Usher and Patricia Clarkson as Jane Davis, Deputy Under Secretary of Commerce for International Trade, both who appeared in Season 5.

In 2013, ‘House of Cards’ became the first original online series to receive major nominations from the Primetime Emmy Awards. The series has received 53 Emmy nominations to date, with seven wins — including the first major Emmy for a streaming service for David Fincher’s win for “Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series.” ‘House of Cards’ received six Golden Globe nominations, and two wins. The historic series has received 11 Screen Actors Guild nominations with two wins; an AFI Award; four Writers Guild Award nominations, with one win; two BAFTA nominations; four Producers Guild Award nominations; two Directors Guild Award nominations; and a Peabody Award, among other accolades.

Whilst we’ve only had the small trailer so far for the new season, which you can find above, they have released a new poster today (below), which shows Claire in a pose familiar to fans of the dramas previous posters.

House of Cards‘ Season 6 will premiere on Netflix from Friday, 2nd November 2018.
