‘Star Trek Discovery’ Casts Ethan Peck As Spock

Star Trek: Discovery has found it’s Mr Spock, CBS has announced this evening! Ethan Peck has landed the role of the U.S.S. Enterprise’s half human, half Vulcan Science Officer when the show returns for Season 2 early next year.

“Through 52 years of television and film, a parallel universe and a mirror universe, Mr. Spock remains the only member of the original bridge crew to span every era of Star Trek,” commented Executive Producer Alex Kurtzman. “The great Leonard Nimoy, then the brilliant Zachary Quinto, brought incomparable humanity to a character forever torn between logic and emotion. We searched for months for an actor who would, like them, bring his own interpretation to the role. An actor who would, like them, effortlessly embody Spock’s greatest qualities, beyond obvious logic: empathy, intuition, compassion, confusion, and yearning. Ethan Peck walked into the room inhabiting all of these qualities, aware of his daunting responsibility to Leonard, Zack, and the fans, and ready to confront the challenge in the service of protecting and expanding on Spock’s legacy. In that spirit, we’re thrilled to welcome him to the family.”

Ethan Peck has starred in a number of tv and film projects including ’10 Things I Hate About You’‘In Time’, ‘The Sorcerer’s Apprentice’ and ‘Madam Secretary’. He is also the grandson of Academy Award-winning actor Gregory Peck. After his role as Spock was made public, he posted on Twitter a photo of himself with various members of the Nimoy family saying “Thanks to the Nimoy family for your open arms, warm welcome, smiling curiosity and support, for making me feel worthy, as I embrace and take into my heart the iconic half alien we know as Mr. Spock. It is an incomparable honor.”

As we know from the trailer, Spock, who is also the half-brother to Sonequa Martin-Green’s Michael Burnham, would seem to be playing a pivotal role in the upcoming 2nd Season of the show. If you remember, in the closing scene of ‘Star Trek: Discovery‘ Season 1 the titular exploration vessel was on its way to Vulcan to pick up a new captain when they pick up a distress call from the USS Enterprise, helmed by Captain Pike (Anson Mount – ‘Hell On Wheels’, ‘Inhumans’). We also learn in the trailer that Spock is apparently “on leave” at the start of Season 2, but is also very much linked into the main story.

‘Star Trek: Discovery’ follows the voyages of Starfleet on their missions to discover new worlds and new life forms, and one Starfleet officer who must learn that to truly understand all things alien, you must first understand yourself. The series features a new ship and new characters while embracing the same ideology and hope for the future that inspired a generation of dreamers and doers.

Star Trek: Discovery‘ will air on Netflix UK in Early 2019.
