USA Network Picks Up Jason Bourne Spin-Off ‘Treadstone’ To Series

Jason Bourne is the latest franchise to get a tv spin-off, as USA Network announce they will be taking Treadstone to straight-to-series.

‘Treadstone’ comes from ‘Heroes’ creator Tim Kring and follows the origin story and present-day actions of a CIA black ops program which created the unstoppable assassin we came to know and love. The story follows various sleeper agents, turned into superhuman assassins by the covert behaviour modification protocol, who are “woken” to take part in deadly missions.

Kring is writing the series with Ramin Bahrani (‘Fahrenheit 451’) set to direct the pilot. Kring and Bahrani exec produce with Ben Smith & Jeffrey Weiner for Captivate and Justin Levy with Bradley Thomas for Imperative Entertainment.

“As the #1 cable entertainment network for the past 12 years, USA Network is delivering a dynamic lineup of big, bold programming – and what could be bigger and bolder than the Treadstone mythology?” commented president of entertainment networks for NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment, Chris McCumber.

The Bourne movies, which starred Matt Damon as the titular character, are adaptations of Robert Ludlum’s hugely popular novel series. The initial trilogy of ‘The Bourne Identity’, ‘The Bourne Supremacy’, and ‘The Bourne Ultimatum’ grossed over £700 million at the box office worldwide, and were followed up by the Jeremy Renner fronted ‘The Bourne Legacy’ in 2012. Damon then returned to the franchise in 2016 for ‘Jason Bourne’.

Treadstone doesn’t go into production until 2019, so it’s too early for international broadcast deals yet, but we’ll let you know when we hear more.
