All or Nothing: Manchester City – The Review

Manchester is either red or blue, it’s that simple. You’re either United or a City supporter – no middle ground. It’s the Red Devils vs. the Sky Blues. Sport often teaches to cheer for the weakest, face disappointment, and have a desire for great accomplishments. This article is about “All or Nothing”, the story of Manchester City.

From 2010 to today, Manchester City has finally broken the dictatorship of the Big Four (Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and, of course, Manchester United) by winning the Premier League in the 2011-2012 season. Since then, City won 2 more Premier League titles. This is what the documentary-film “All or Nothing: Manchester City” is about. An achievement conquered thanks to the arrival of one of the most influential, esteemed and charismatic coaches of modern football: Pep Guardiola.

In the Heart of Manchester City

The documentary is meticulous in telling how Manchester City arrived to dominate in England and it focuses on the Season 2017-2018 of the Premier League. Narrated by the voice of Ben Kingsley, the story is untangled inside and outside the locker room. It goes through the playfield and the management rooms up to the stands in order to hear the voice of the fans.

“All or Nothing” is for sure a pleasure for every football fan that likes to learn more about the history of one of the top-rising clubs in modern football. It’s also good for people who place bets in the PL, and are trying to see more than just numbers offered from the legal UK betting sites. It maintains a unique style, away from the overly fictional sports storytelling. Overall, the documentary offers a fascinating insight into the lives of all players and makes them more human, even those who are often considered as simple primadonnas interested only in money.

Viewers are brought into the private lives of the players, where it is possible to develop an emotional connection with them and the club. The stories in the documentary give a whole new perspective on the club, staff, and the players.

The Real Star of the Documentary: Pep Guardiola

Although “All or Nothing” focuses on the Manchester City team in general, the real star is without any doubt,  Pep Guardiola. The Spanish coach is considered by many to be the greatest manager in football history. Guardiola explicitly says in one episode that his role in the club goes far beyond that of a simple coach. And, looking at the other episodes, it becomes clear what it refers to. From a mentor to a severe disciplinarian, from a person to talk to, to a real friend. Pep Guardiola is a fascinating character and a great motivator.

“All or Nothing: Manchester City” is the first football insight documentary of the Amazon series “All or Nothing” dedicated to large sports enterprises. This is pure soccer. You do not need to be a Manchester City fan to enjoy this documentary, as it’s just nice to watch. Since August 2018, you can find all 8 episodes of this documentary available on Prime Video UK.
