First Look At Ruby Rose As Arrowverse’s Batwoman

The CW has released the first image of Ruby Rose as Batwoman, who will appear in this season’s Arrowverse crossover, and I think it’s fair to say, they’ve done a Bat-tastic job!

Armed with a passion for social justice and a flair for speaking her mind, Kate Kane (Rose) soars onto the streets of Gotham as Batwoman, an out lesbian and highly trained street fighter primed to snuff out the failing city’s criminal resurgence. But don’t call her a hero yet. In a city desperate for a saviour, Kate must overcome her own demons before embracing the call to be Gotham’s symbol of hope.

Batwoman is a character who has been around in the comic books since 1956. The “Silver Age” version of the Bat-family member was Kathy Kane, however, this version seems to be based more on the 2006 Kate Kane who first popped up in the brilliant ’52’ run. Kate Kane comes from the other wealthiest family dynasty in Gotham, and is the cousin of Bruce Wayne. Kate is openly lesbian, and her former lovers include former Gotham City police detective Renee Montoya (who goes on to become superhero The Question).

The Arrowverse crossover event, which lands in December, is titled ‘Elseworlds’ this year, which would seem to point to some monkeying around in the multiverse… I bet it’s Barry’s fault… It’s always Barry’s fault… It also draws the attention of Mar Novu, aka The Monitor (Designated Survivor’ star LaMonica Garrett), which is never usually a good thing. Monitors are supposed to watch and not intervene unless something has gone spectacularly wrong.

The crossover episode comes from writer/producer Caroline Dries, whose previous work includes ‘The Vampire Diaries’‘Melrose Place’ and ‘Smallville’. She will also be heading up the spin-off ‘Batwoman’ series, which is currently in development for The CW, should that make it past the pilot stage.

The ‘Elseworlds’ crossover will be Legend-less this year, mainly due to the logistics of shooting such a massive event. However, it will bring together the cast of ‘Flash’, ‘Arrow’ and ‘Supergirl’. They will be joined by Tyler Hoechlin, who reprises his role as Superman/Clark Kent, along with Elizabeth Tulloch who joins as famed reporter Lois Lane, and Cassandra Jean Amell, who takes the role of Nora Fries.

The DC shows all return to the UK in October 2018, beginning with ‘The Flash‘ on Thursday, 18th Oct, followed by ‘Supergirl‘ on Monday (22nd), and ‘Arrow‘ on Tuesday (23rd). ‘Legends Of Tomorrow‘ begins Wednesday, 31st October 2018, all at 8pm on Sky One.
