USA Network’s ‘Treadstone‘ has found two of it’s leading men, as Brian J. Smith & Jeremy Irvine take up roles in the ‘Bourne’ spin-off series.
‘Treadstone’ comes from ‘Heroes’ creator Tim Kring and follows the origin story and present-day actions of a CIA black ops program which created the unstoppable assassin we came to know and love. The story follows various sleeper agents, turned into superhuman assassins by the covert behaviour modification protocol, who are “woken” to take part in deadly missions.
Brian J. Smith will play oil-rig worker Doug McKenna, whose life is turned upside down when he discovers long-buried truths about himself. This shouldn’t be anything new for Smith, having previously worked on Netflix’s much loved ‘Sense8’ series. He also will be a familiar face to fans of the ‘Stargate’ franchise where he played Lt. Matthew Scott in ‘Stargate Universe’, and ‘Gossip Girl’ fans will know him as Max Harding.
Brit actor Jeremy Irvine is set to portray J. Randolph Bentley, a CIA spy who is sent out to eliminate a key target, but finds himself embroiled in an international conspiracy. Irvine’s previous work saw him star in the movies ‘War Horse’, Mike Newell’s ‘Great Expectations’, and ‘The Bad Education Movie’. More recently he starred as Young Sam in ‘Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again’.
Tim Kring is writing the ‘Treadstone’ series with Ramin Bahrani (‘Fahrenheit 451’) directing the pilot. Kring and Bahrani exec produce with Ben Smith & Jeffrey Weiner for Captivate and Justin Levy with Bradley Thomas for Imperative Entertainment.
It’s still too early for a UK broadcaster for ‘Treadstone‘, but we’ll let you know when we hear something.
