Jon Cryer To Play Lex Luthor On ‘Supergirl’

A few weeks ago the news broke that Supergirl would be introducing Lex Luthor to the show this season. They’ve now found the man bald/bold enough to take on the role – Jon Cryer.

Cryer will be a very familiar face to sitcom fans, having starred in ‘Two And A Half Men’ for 12 Seasons, although you’re probably used to him with rather more hair! However, you might not realise, he does also have a connection to the war-suit wearing DC villain. He previously starred as Lenny Luthor, Lex’s nephew in the… shall we say, “less than good”… ‘Superman IV: The Quest for Peace’ movie. Still, it’s nice to have some more DC legacy casting on the show. He also voiced the villain Felix Faust in the Cartoon Network show ‘Justice League Action’.

“We are enormous fans of Jon Cryer, and he was instantly our dream actor to play the iconic role of Lex Luthor,” commented ‘Supergirl’ Executive Producers Robert Rovner and Jessica Queller in a statement. “Jon is a super-talent, and the fact that he played Lenny Luthor in Superman IV brings an added layer of legacy to his casting. We’re beyond thrilled to welcome Jon to the Supergirl family.”

Lex has been mentioned in ‘Supergirl’ previously as being locked up in prison, leaving Lena to run L-Corp (formally known as LexCorp). Now it would seem he is back out in the world. What that will mean for Lena and Supergirl is anyone’s guess, but it’s not likely to be good. In the comic books, Lex has often put on the appearance of turning over a new leaf, but it seldom sticks. We’ll have to wait and see how things play out when he shows up in the upcoming season. Lex will apparently may his debut in episode 15 of Season 4.

Supergirl‘ is currently airing Monday nights at 8pm on Sky One.
