The CW has released a new teaser trailer for the Arrowverse 3-Day ‘Elseworlds’ crossover event, and we get a little bit more of a look at Batwoman.

Armed with a passion for social justice and a flair for speaking her mind, Kate Kane (Ruby Rose) soars onto the streets of Gotham as Batwoman, an out lesbian and highly trained street fighter primed to snuff out the failing city’s criminal resurgence. But don’t call her a hero yet. In a city desperate for a saviour, Kate must overcome her own demons before embracing the call to be Gotham’s symbol of hope.

Whilst we don’t know exactly what causes this year’s monkeying around in the multiverse, we do know it will involve Gotham City, and introduce Ruby Rose as Batwoman. It’s interesting to note, this trailer, I believe, is the first time we’ve really heard mention of the Batman. There have been passing comments about Bruce Wayne in the past, but I don’t believe we’ve heard such a blatant Batman shout-out in the Arrowverse up until now.

Having said that, don’t expect to see the big man himself anytime soon. “Our approach is: What does Gotham look like after the Batman has been gone for three years?” commented consulting producer Caroline Dries about the missing Bat. “So if you have the law and order, protector, and hope gone, what happens as a result? Some people are thriving in his absence because now they can start to do their own thing without the oversight. A lot of other people are suffering and they’re losing hope, and the city itself and infrastructure is falling apart. So it’s not a happy place. Our guys walk into a grimy, scary Gotham.”

The Arrowverse is pulling out all the stops this year for the crossover event. ‘Elseworlds’ will also see Grant Gustin and Stephen Amell switch places as The Flash and Green Arrow, and John Wesley Shipp don his original 90’s Flash outfit.

We will also have the return of Tyler Hoechlin as Superman/Clark Kent, along with Elizabeth Tulloch who joins as famed reporter Lois Lane, and Cassandra Jean Amell, who takes the role of Nora Fries. On top of that, given that something seems very very wrong with the timeline here, it should come as no surprise (at least to comic book readers) that Mar Novu, aka The Monitor (‘Designated Survivor’ star LaMonica Garrett), is also getting involved.

The Arrowverse ‘Elseworlds’ crossover event airs from Thursday, 13th December 2019 at 8pm on Sky One in the UK.
