Netflix Picks Up Greg Berlanti’s ‘YOU’ For A 2nd Season As A Netflix Original

by Dave Elliott

Greg Berlanti and Sera Gamble’s dark psychological thriller YOU will return for a 2nd Season, as Netflix takes over as the sole broadcaster of the drama.

Based on Caroline Kepnes’ best-selling novel of the same name, ‘YOU’ is a 21st century love story about an obsessive, yet brilliant twentysomething who uses the hyper connectivity of today’s technology to make the woman of his dreams fall in love with him. “What would you do for love?” When a brilliant bookstore manager crosses paths with an aspiring writer, his answer becomes clear: anything. Using the Internet and social media as his tools to gather the most intimate of details and get close to her, a charming and awkward crush quickly becomes obsession as he quietly and strategically removes every obstacle – and person – in his way.

The drama stars Penn Badgley (‘Gossip Girl), Elizabeth Lail (‘Once Upon a Time’), Luca Padovan (‘Super Wings!’), Zach Cherry (‘Our Cartoon President’) and Shay Mitchell (‘Pretty Little Liars’). Greg Berlanti (DC/CW shows, ‘Riverdale’) and Sera Gamble (‘The Magicians’, ‘Aquarius’, ‘Supernatural’) serve as writers and exec producers.

‘YOU’ was an original production by US network Lifetime, however, they have decided to drop out to focus more on their movie programming. Netflix has always been the broadcaster for the drama internationally and has decided to continue the series on their own. The change won’t affect UK audiences, but US fans will now need to be on the streaming service to watch Season 2.

YOU‘ Season 1 premieres Wednesday, 26th December 2018 on Netflix UK.
