Geektown Awards – British TV Show of the Year

Get your Union Jacks at the ready, as it’s time for the British TV Show of the Year category! There is usually a trend during the awards which sees ‘Doctor Who’ win any categories in which it’s nominated… This year that rule was broken, and broken by a big margin. Here are the shows you voted the best of British.

British TV Show of the Year

Nominees: Bodyguard, Call The Midwife, Doctor Who, Poldark, Press, Strike: Career of Evil

Bronze: Call The Midwife

Silver: Doctor Who

And the Gold goes to …

Winner: Bodyguard

It’s the second award for Jed Mercurio’s juggernaut hit Bodyguard. Not even the sonic could help The Doctor remove the epic drama from the top spot. Much like it did with the Limited Series category, ‘Bodyguard’ landed nearly 40% of the overall vote, almost double its closest rival.

We don’t yet know if we will see Richard Madden return as David Budd, but Mercurio has been in discussions with the BBC about the possibility of a 2nd Season. Given the phenomenal success of its first outing, you have to imagine it will return at some point. In the meantime, you have a new series of Jed Mercurio’s other massive hit to look forward to, as ‘Line Of Duty’ returns in 2019.
