Netflix Set March Premiere And Releases First Photos For Idris Elba Comedy ‘Turn Up Charlie’
Whilst many people are enjoying Idris Elba’s latest outing as ‘Luther’ on the BBC right now, later this year you’ll be able to see him flexing his comedic chops again as his new series ‘Turn Up Charlie‘ lands on Netflix in March.
Turn Up Charlie centres on the titular Charlie (Elba), a struggling DJ and eternal bachelor, who is given a final chance at success when he reluctantly becomes a ‘manny’ to his famous best friend’s problem-child daughter, Gabby (Frankie Hervey). Piper Perabo (‘Covert Affairs’, ‘Coyote Ugly’) and JJ Field (‘The Romanoffs’, ‘TURN: Washington’s Spies’) co-star.
Angela Griffin (‘Lewis’, ‘Ordinary Lies’), Guz Khan (‘Curfew’, ‘Zapped’), Jocelyn Jee Esein (‘Upstart Crow’, ‘Holby City’), Jade Anouka (‘Trauma’, ‘Cleaning Up’), Cameron King (‘Hard Sun’, ‘Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children’) and Dustin Demri-Burns (‘Sick Note’, ‘Stath Lets Flats’) round out the cast as recurring guest stars.
Netflix has also released a set of “first look” images to give you an idea of what to expect from the comedy.
Elba and Gary Reich co-created ‘Turn Up Charlie’ and will serve as executive producers along with Tristram Shapeero. Shapeero will also direct the series with Matt Lipsey. Martin Joyce and Ana Garanito are co-executive producers. The series is co-produced by Reich’s Brown Eyed Boy Productions and Elba’s Green Door Pictures.
‘Turn Up Charlie‘ Season 1 premieres Friday, 15th March 2019 on Netflix UK and worldwide.
