‘Modern Family’ To End With 11th & Final Season

Modern Family’ is set to take a last bow, with a final 11th Season US network ABC has announced today.

US ‘mockumentary style’ sitcom following the lives of Jay Pritchett, his second wife and stepson as well as his two children, and their families. The series comes from co-creators Steve Levitan and Christopher Lloyd and stars Ed O’Neil as family head Pritchett, with Sofia Vergara playing second wife, Gloria. Rico Rodriguez plays son Manny, whilst Julie Bowen stars as daughter Claire who is married to Phil (Ty Burrell). Nolan Gould also stars as Luke Dunphy, with Ariel Winter as Alex Dunphy, Sarah Hyland as Haley Dunphy, Jesse Tyler Ferguson as Mitchell Pritchett, Eric Stonestreet as Cameron Tucker, Aubrey Anderson-Emmons as Lily Tucker-Pritchett and Jeremy Maguire as Joe Pritchett.

“Chris and Steve have created one of the most seminal and iconic comedies in television history,” commented Karey Burke, president, ABC Entertainment at today’s TCA event. “In its final season, there will be more milestone events that anyone who has been a fan of the series won’t want to miss.”

‘Modern Family’ has been a smash hit for ABC in both rating and awards, picking up 5 Emmys for Outstanding Comedy Series, and the top rated comedy on the network. The series remains one of the most heavily awarded comedy shows on television, having also picked up a Golden Globe win, four SAG Award wins for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series, a Peabody Award, two GLAAD Media Awards, two NAACP Image Awards, six WGA awards, four PGA awards, a Television Critics award along with dozens of individual wins by the show’s award-winning cast. However, all good things have to end sometime, and it seems the time has come for the show.

“For 10 years, our characters have bravely faced turning points in life and moved through them to great personal enrichment; we have chosen a different path by doing one more season of Modern Family,” commented Lloyd. “Even after 10 years together, we realized there are still some things our writers don’t yet know about each other’s sex lives,” adds Levitan.

Modern Family’ Season 10 is currently airing Friday nights at 8:30pm on Sky One in the UK.
